THE no-spectators condition for Port Moresby’s Digicel Cup games has been lifted, according to the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition.
From Sunday, city fans can buy tickets and watch Port Moresby’s round-11 triple-header at Sir John Guise Stadium.
However, the restricted number of 4,500 people to be allowed in, the health and social distancing protocols will be strictly enforced.
Competition manager Stanley Hondina said in a statement that the approval for the return of crowds was granted by the national pandemic controller late yesterday.
“The protocols and crowd control measures that were in place before the Covid-19 lockdown and no-spectators conditions came into force in round five will again be strictly complied with and enforced,” he said.
He said tickets for Sunday’s games could be purchased at Vision City’s two Digicel kiosks and the Digicel Headquarters in Gordon from 9am today.
Gates will open at 10am and entry into the stadium will be through Gate F for the grand stand, north-west, south-west and northern stands and Gate G for the eastern and southern stands. Both gates are at the Sports Inn side of the stadium.
The ticket prices are K25 (grand stand), K20 (south-west and north-west), K15 (eastern) and K10 (southern and northern) per person. Children under three years are free.
“We are grateful to the controller and the PNG Sports Foundation for the approval,” Hondina said.
“I urge all our supporters to continue to observe and comply with the ‘new normal’ practices and enjoy rugby league in Port Moresby.”
