TELIKOM say they have some ground to make up as they continue to battle the intensity of the National Capital District Volleyball Association competition at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
Coach Mea Johang said that following his side’s 2-3 loss to Phoenix last weekend.
They were unable to put away the contest despite having a two-set lead with his A-grade side playing the price for conceding simple errors.
“We conceded too many spiking mistakes,” Johang said.
“They didn’t execute our game plan. Our hitters failed to control the ball.”
Johang’s men occupy the fourth spot on the seven-team ladder, having recorded 17 points from nine games. They are six points behind Edatec Scorpions and Phoenix, and 10 fewer than frontrunners Jugu (27).
“In general, our structural play is centred on our setter in the middle,” Johang said.
“The spiking positions in front are two and three, and the back court hitters. Normally, the setter eye’s the front hitters.
“But setting wasn’t on point due to a lack of communication.
“We have a lot of catching up to do.” Johang encouraged his men to commit to training with improvement needed in spiking.
“I won’t be entertaining average performances,” he said.
“The mid-season is crucial in setting a platform for the finals, and our spiking personnel will need to work harder.”
