Telikom Foundation presents photocopy machine to school

TELIKOM Foundation Inc handed over a photocopying machine to the St John’s Catholic Primary School in Tokarara, Port Moresby, on Friday to assist the school with its daily operations.
Foundation coordinator Yolanda Bafmatuk said the photocopier, which cost about K15,000, would allow the school to communicate with parents through newsletters as well as help teachers print learning material for students.
“We know this what the school is missing,
it’s a gap whereby information is not forthcoming to the parents and the students so this
photocopy machine is going to bridge that gap,” she said.
“When we talk about the digital advance, we’re not only referring to the rural areas but also here in the nation’s capital and other urban settings.”
Bafmatuk urged the students and teachers to take care of the equipment.
Headmistress Veronica Maloni said the donation was timely as the school had not had a photocopier for quite some time.
Maloni said parents had contributed and hosted a barbecue fundraiser towards the purchase of the photocopier and Telikom Foundation assisted with funding as well.
Meanwhile, Bafmatuk said one of the foundation’s programme was the Clean IT (information technology) E-Library solution, wherein the
foundation builds IT laboratories, supplies computers to schools and connects them to the internet.
“Through this support, our main objective is to ensure that we improve literacy through technology-enabled solutions where we leverage on our business which is telecommunications.”
She added that the foundation had evolved since 2010 and assisted more than 60 schools across the country and supported two partner organisations: Anglicare PNG and Hope Worldwide PNG.
