Telikom PNG has thrown its support behind the Public Servants Netball Association ahead of the 11th Pan Pacific Games on the Gold Coast in Australia next month.
Speaking during a presentation of K11,400 to the association in Port Moresby yesterday, Telikom PNG acting chief operations officer Amos Tepi said they were happy to honour a request for funding assistance. “Telikom PNG is a state-owned entity and this company belongs to the people of Papua New Guinea,” Tepi said.
“We believe in looking after our people — the public servants and citizens — the best way possible.
“It is therefore fitting that we help these public servants with funding to compete at the games in Australia.
“It is one of those areas that public servants need to embrace, as that helps productivity in the workplace.”
Ralai Benedict, captain of the association’s team of 35-year-olds, thanked Telikom PNG for the sponsorship.
She said although the association was raising money for the games, they still needed assistance to purchase airline tickets for their contingent of about 100 women for the tournament at the Carrara Indoor Stadium from Nov 2–11.
“At the last games in 2016, we brought back bronze,” Benedict said.
“This time we are going for gold in the 35-year age category, as our preparations have been good since April and we hope to make our sponsor happy.”
The biannual games attract participants from across the Asia-Pacific region for tournaments in the age categories of 35, 40, 50 and 55 years.
