Tell us the truth about Pacific Medical Centre

Letters, Normal

PAPUA New Guineans and other stakeholders must be told the truth about the Pacific Medical Centre project.
At a board meeting of the Pacific Medical Centre earlier this year, eyebrows were raised when some notable representatives were present.
They were led by the American group of developers, Ambassador Paki, senior PNG specialists and doctors but the health minister was absent as he was engaged elsewhere.
At this meeting, it was apparent the American developers did not have the primary working capital to invest in the project as we were made to believe.
The only fund the group had was the PNG government’s initial contribution of K20 million.
As the meeting progressed, it became even more distressingly clear the developers’ intention was to secure K200 million loan using the government as a guarantor.
The Americans do not have the funds and I believe this is a scam.
This project will not bring any tangible benefits to the people of this country.
And if this project fails, the developers will sue the government for damages and loss of business, etc and etc, even though they did not contribute a single penny.
All I ask is very simple – that the developers open their books for public scrutiny and the public office holders to come clean and tell the truth.
