UTILITY Jerry Teme will continue to play off the bench as Gulf Isou’s back-up rake, says coach Roger Laka.
Teme was outstanding against Central Dabaris last week, scoring the winning try in their round-two Digicel Cup fixture.
Laka said there were no talks yet to switch the former Lae Tiger to combine with sibling David Joseph in the halves.
“I thought of switching Jerry to the halves, but he wanted to stick to the hooking role,” he said.
“He’s a smart player with a good vision.
“He creates opportunities around the ruck.
“That’s what we need in key moments of the game.
“So he’ll continue assisting Woods Kawage in the No.9 role.”
Isou kicked off their season on a high note with back-to-back wins.
Meanwhile, coach Laka praised new recruit and former Rabaul Guria Eliakim Lukara for bagging a double in the 22-16 win over the Dabaris.
“We will need to continue the momentum moving forward,” he said. Isou’s Kenny Laho, Kawage, Joseph, Gabby Taune, Charles Sul and Nicky Pylio will look to pick up from where they left off when they face Goroka Lahanis in Port Moresby on Sunday. “We’re really grateful that they (Kawage, Teme, Joseph and Lukara) have made sacrifices to join us,” Laka said
“They’ve combined well with the rest of the squad. We hope to maintain that intensity for the remainder of the season.”
