Ten spots still available for rugby league challenge

THERE are 10 spots remaining in the 24-team NCD Governor’s Cup rugby league challenge for this week­end.
Port Moresby Suburban Sports Association (POMSUSA) president Billy Aki yesterday said those teams wishing to take part should submit their registration fees to the POMSUSA office at Lagatoi Haus by the close of business today.
The registration fees are: Non-POMSUSA teams K300, POMSUSA teams K250.
Aki said there were 10 spots left to be filled and he would accept teams on a first-come, first-serve basis.
He said the 14 teams that had paid were ready for the challenge.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop has given K20,000 for the administration and prize money.
Reigning champions, Boroko Pythons are ready to defend the title they won last year.
The NCD Cup rugby league tournament will kick off on Friday and end with the finals on Monday afternoon.
In addition, there will be the NCD Governor’s Cup boxing tournament at the Ben Moide Club, Murray Barracks, from Friday to Sunday.
The three-day boxing tournament has attracted teams from Goroka, Kairuku, Gulf, Abau and NCD.
As host, Team NCD will field two teams while all other invited association will have one team in the boxing championships.
The NCD Boxing Association held its trial on Sunday and has picked a strong team to represent it at the championships, where they hope to dominate.
