More than 150 tennis and squash players will gather at the Port Moresby Racquets Club for the Port Moresby Open next month.
Competitors from Lae, Rabaul and Mt Hagen will be joined by players from Cairns, Brisbane and Darwin in Australia.
Club president Tim Kriebisch said: “The Open will involve tennis and squash.
“I’m looking forward to this event because it is also a selection tournament for the Papua New Guinea squash team who will compete at next year’s Pacific Games in Samoa.”
National squash coach Marc Foster, who was in the country over the weekend, said it was important that players knew there was a pathway for representative duties.
Once they know what to prepare for, players can focus on the main events.
