Teptep footballers walk for two days to compete

THROUGH Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu’s border development programme, a Teptep team have walked for two days to compete in Lae’s Wawens Cup.
Nayudos team manager Bopding Kawaop said through sports, they had organised youths from the village bordering Morobe and Madang to compete in the soccer tournament.
He said with the border intervention programme, they had revive sports activities that saw PNG Sports Foundation and the Papua New Guinea Football Association deliver training.
“The border intervention programme has helped us a lot.,” Kawaop said.
“Through this programme, we are the first team (from the area) to compete in the Wawens Cup.
“We believe this programme will be delivered in other districts of Morobe.
“Nayudos is representing six languages at the border of Madang and Morobe (Rai Coast and Kawbum).
“It is a church boundary and Nayudos is representing the Teptep circuit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea.
“This is our first time to compete in the tournament.
We are here to gain experience and expose our talent for established clubs in the city to scout.”
He said there were lot of talented players in the rural areas.
