Thank you MPs for investing in agriculture

Letters

I CONGRATULATE MPs who are directly involved in supporting agriculture small to medium enterprises (SMEs).
Some cash crops neglected in the past years are coffee, copra, cocoa, oil palm and tea.
These crops are revived under the agriculture SME policy of the Government.
While other cash crops have been cultivated on a corporate scale, coffee, cocoa, copra have been produced by individuals and families.
The MPs whose policies are agriculture-driven are changing the game to reduce unemployment and increase domestic consumption by putting cash to where the people are.
Some of us have solely relied on coffee for school fees in the early Independence years because we came from families of subsistence farmers in rural areas.
Because of that, some of us address each other as “Coffee” or “Kopi” in Tokpisin.
We’re proud of where we came from.
Although our parents were subsistence farmers, coffee paid for our school fees and other costs, thus, we used coffee or kopi our middle name.
I believe people in other regions of the country have depended on cocoa, oil palm and copra just as how we depended on coffee .
I salute MPs such as Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu, Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru, Wabag MP and Fisheries Minister Dr Lino Tom, Northern Governor Gary Juffa, Kundiawa MP and Police Minister William Onglo, Gumine MP Nick Kuman, Karimui-Nomane MP Geoffrey Kama and Maprik MP and Agriculture and Livestock Minister John Simon.
I thank other MPs whom I did not mention but are actively involved in investing in agriculture in their electorates.
