The Juha project

Letters

I write in response to the letter ‘Juha project’ (The National May 14) by Willsman of Kiunga, Western.
I support your point that Juha PDL 9 is at the fringes of Western and Hela.
However, you presumptuously misjudged things by saying that the clan-vetting and forums should be held in Western.
On what measures or grounds did you come to say that? Western makes up only 2 per cent as per the signing of the UBSA accord at Kokopo in 2009.
The majority of the landowners are at North Koroba, in Hela, as they own the remaining 98 per cent of the project’s benefits.
The government spent a lot of money on two clan-vetting exercises and both failed because arrogant people hijacked the process.
This time we will not tolerate that.
