THREE men detained by police for allegedly being involved in the killing of Dr Alphonse Rongap  appeared in the Lae District Court on Friday.
The court was told that Byron Mark, 23, and of mixed Northern and East New Britain, Maliaki Tetak,  21, from Bugang village in Bukawa, Morobe and Kamoping Quilling,  25, from Kuluntufu village in Finschhafen, also in Morobe, would remain in custody until their appearance in the National Court on July 15.
Senior Magistrate Jeremiah Singomat said: “Two weeks would enable police to conduct investigations into the matter and gather statements from witnesses.”
Rongap was a senior paediatrician at the Angau Memorial Hospital. He was killed on June 25.
Lae Metro Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr said Rongap died from injuries caused by shots from a homemade gun plus knife wounds.
He said police investigation  was continuing into the shooting.
Wagambie said it would take about three weeks for police to complete the investigation.
