LAE Tigers have congratulated Stanley Tepend for guiding Papua New Guinea to a 24-14 Test win over Fiji in his debut as the head coach of the Kumuls.
Tigers owner Ian Chow and club manager Joe Kramer travelled to Sydney last week to see the four-time Digicel Cup winner take charge of the national side for the first time.
Kramer told The National yesterday that he and Chow attended the Campbelltown Stadium clash to provide moral support to the Kumuls legend.
“We are proud of him,” he said.
“He was with the Tigers for eight years, winning premierships and guiding us to a number of grand finals.
“To see him applying his trade for the first time as the Kumuls head coach was an achievement for the Tigers too.
“Thanks to Lae Biscuit Company owner and franchise boss Ian, who is always humble.
“Chow was really happy for Tepend as well as other Tigers product in the Kumuls squad in Justin Olam, Junior Rop, Sherwin Tanabi and Sylvester Namo.
“We always promote hard work and discipline at our club, and witnessing some of our products performing well on the international stage is something for the club to celebrate.”
Kramer said Chow made travel and accommodation arrangements for former Tigers captain John Andy to travel from Canberra to Sydney to watch the game.
Andy is training in Canberra as a PNG Defence Force soldier.
