SP PNG Hunters squad member Mark Tony says he is ready to get back into pre-season training after spending a well-earned Christmas break with family.
The Matthew Church-coached side resume camp today at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby for the second-half of the 2022 pre-season.
The Lae Tigers captain told The National yesterday that the break was much needed and that he enjoyed time spent with his family.
“After almost six weeks of intensive training, I guess all players in camp needed a break and it was healthy,” the 25-year old said.
“As for myself, my family is based here at Six-Mile in Port Moresby so I didn’t have to catch a flight out like most of the squad members who have families in other centres.
“I used the two-week break to spend quality time with my family.
“It really helped me refresh my mind and prepare mentally for the remainder of the pre-season. The Hunters staff said we would resume camp on Tuesday so I can’t wait to head back into training.
“I am sure the rest of the squad members have spent time with their families and they will be looking forward to training as well.”
Tony said he was pleased with his own efforts in the first-half of the pre-season but would look to raise the intensity as players vied for spots in the Hunters final squad for thye Hostplus Cup.
“Every player will come back strong for the pre-season as they would want to make the final squad that will head down to Queensland, Australia,” he said.
“For my case, I am very satisfied with my efforts before we went for break but I think I have to maintain that because definitely we are competing for spots. I must not be complacent but will try to dig deep to make the final squad that the coach will be announcing at the end of the month.”
