Tikana people need multi-purpose stadium: MP

Sports

A MULTI-PURPOSE sports stadium is needed for the people of East Coast Kara and youths of the Tikana local-level government area, according to Kavieng MP Ian Ling-Stuckey.
District development authority chairman conveyed the vision of the East Kara Sport Association during an event at Mangai village on Saturday when he presented K50,000 to its president, James Karake.
He encouraged the association and youths of ward seven and East Coast Kara to dare to dream, but cautioned that funding for the planning stage of the stadium was now on hold, as a result of the court case.
Ling-Stuckey presented 69 oil palm growers with their “Ag Pac” proposed to be valued at K1,000 per farmer.
However, due to nil stock at both Poliamba Mill and Hardware Haus in Kavieng, presentations of fertilizers, gum boots and stone files to individual farmers were delayed, but wheelbarrows, sickles and bush knives were presented to excited farmers.
“The establishment of an Oil Palm grant for farmers was one of our seven point policy platform and today’s budget of K54,286.36 is part of the K400,000 deposited with Poliamba in November last year, representing the 2019 and 2020 oil palm grant budget,” Ling-Stuckey said.
A total of 290 small-to-medium enterprise recipients and 60 pig farmers also received their retail stock and New Zealand imported eight-line pig wire to begin their projects.
Ling-Stuckey advised pig farmers that he had budgeted an initial 2,000 male and female piglets from Port Moresby, Lae and Kokopo, but all suppliers had reported nil stock due to Covid-19.
