Time to cut costs

Letters

THE country’s ongoing financial situation is getting worse.
The government has to speak up and tell the truth.
Is the country continuing to build up debts?
The way the country is now, it seems like there is a real cash flow problem to properly administer the country.
Evidence of this is the public service officers’ pays that are not always up to date as it used to be in the past.
With the past governments, the public service officers’ pay used to be on time, even though less developments were afforded during those days.
The past leaders were a bit careful in the way public funds were managed and expedited.
There have been some good impact changes and developments were initiated under this current leadership.
However, among these changes there are some severe financial problems.
The problems created now need to be corrected to put the country back on track.
It is time our leaders should be thinking, talking and doing things positively to get this country out of this cash flow problem.
The path the country is going down is very scary and the government needs to assess the situation.
If the government is surviving through borrowing funds – either onshore, offshore or both – then it needs to admit the truth and work on some debt reducing measures.
If the country continues to borrow to survive, then it has to take cost cutting measures on some uneconomical or idle areas that are not doing well where funding is still maintained.
The government has to task responsible government agencies to look around and work on the cost cutting measures to repay the debts.
Everybody must think positively and make sacrifices to save this country.
There are times we must sacrifice now for the good of the future.
If we continue to think of our bread and butter only and not make any sacrifices, then the future may not be in our favour.
It is time the government looks at inviable lines of spending which are less or not functioning to cut costs and start diverting for debt repayments or servicing.
The sacrifice today for a good life tomorrow.
