Titie: Players unsure about vaccination

PORT Moresby Vipers team manager Ronnie Titie says most of the players in the squad remain undecided about the possibility of getting a jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition (PNGNRLC) is still in the consultation stage of the possibility of having the players and coaching staff of the 12 franchises vaccinated, however, Titie said there needed to be more awareness on the vaccine.
“The majority of the players in the squad are uncertain about this because there’s not much awareness on the vaccine,” Titie told The National.
“We had a manager’s conference weeks ago with Dr Kapua Kapua, the PNG Sports Foundation’s chief medical officer, and PNG Rugby Football League’s Dr Gideon Kendino.
“They did presentation for us on the vaccine that is currently being rolled out.”
While the vaccination remained voluntary for those who were willing to get the jab, Titie said they would continue to conduct awareness to help the players understand and decide for themselves.
“By then, I think we should have a better understanding of that (vaccination),” he said.
“We started (doing awareness on the vaccination) two weeks ago during our training sessions, so most of the players have a fair understanding of what it is.”
