THE World Boxing Council-Asia Boxing Council title fight between national middleweight champion Raka Kauko Jr and his Philippine opposite Roldan Adea has been postponed indefinitely, says an official.
Oceania Fight Promotions (OFP) director Maryanne Millie said due to the Covid-19 state of emergency, a new date was yet to be set for the fight, which was initially set for April 25 at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
The event will also feature other Papua New Guinea professional boxers taking on fighters from Thailand, Australia and Indonesia with local undercard bouts also being arranged as curtain-raisers.
“Our fights are only suspended due to Covid-19,” Millie said.
“It will still go on once the ban on sports facilities is lifted by the Government.
“For the time being, we have encouraged our fighters to keep fit and do their own training while waiting for the situation to improve.
“Once the ban is lifted, we will make announcements on the rescheduled fights.”
Millie said all their sponsors remained committed to hosting the event and that they would continue to back the sport.
