SPORTS Minister Justin Tkatchenko, pictured, has praised the PNG Rugby Football League for the direction it has taken with regards to the PNGNRL and its Digicel Cup Competition.
“The closer cooperation and consultation between the PNGRFL and the PNGNRL is very encouraging for the growth of rugby league in the country from here on,” Tkatchenko said.
“The decision and direction for greater involvement of the PNGRFL in the process of the set up of the year’s competition will ensure that all PNGNRL programmes and its Digicel Cup Competition are properly aligned with the PNGRFL schedule. It will also allow greater PNGRFL interaction with franchise owners and sponsors at that level.”
Minister Tkatchenko congratulated PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka and the new PNGNRL head Adrian Chow for coming together and committing themselves for the benefit of the sport.
“Rugby league is far from where it was five years ago, the time is right for the decision where all parties will no longer work in isolation but hand in hand. This is positive for rugby league development for administration.
“Good administration and governance is key for any sport to thrive.
“We’ll host World Cup matches at the end of the year, and getting our house in order prior to this world event is timely.”
