MORESBY South MP Justin Tkatchenko, pictured, has emphasised the importance of education at a cheque presentation in Port Moresby yesterday.
Tkatchenko told recipients of the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and Moresby South’s Technical and Vocational Educational Training (Tvet) scholarships: “We want you to make your dreams come true, through education.
“We want you to succeed.”
Tkatchenko, who is also Housing and Urbanisation Minister, said his dream was to make Moresby South the best electorate in terms of its standard of education.
According to the minister, almost 14,000 students had pursued further studies under the Moresby South Tvet scholarship programme since 2013.
He said 50 elementary, primary and secondary school teachers upgrade their skills through the programme every year to enable them to teach at a higher standard.
Tkatchenko said he wanted to make sure the teachers and students were equipped to perform to their best and raise standards in the electorate.
“It is up to you now to ensure that you commit yourself to achieving your best.”
Education department representative Jonathan Davai, a guest at the presentation, said “with Tvet as the tool in education, no one will be left behind”.
