MADANG police need help from political leaders and local communities to effectively carry out policing in the province, police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.
“Lawlessness is getting out of hand,” he said yesterday.
“We (police) are handicapped.
“Not enough vehicles and funds to fight crime. Innocent people especially children are murdered as way of payback in Transgogol areas where cult activities and killings are getting worse each day.
“We need support also from church groups and community leaders, our leaders please put political differences aside and work together for the betterment of Madang people.”
Acting Supt Rubiang when providing crime updates from Madang, said a 23-year-old man from Boroi village in Bogia had been arrested last Sunday for the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman also from the same village.
According to information from the Bogia Police Station, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim, dragged her to the near bushes and raped her. The victim was taken to the Bogia health centre for treatment.
In another incident, acting Supt Rubiang said two suspects had been arrested in relation to the murder of a man at Pepaur village, Sumkar, last Tuesday.
He said the suspects had been charged with wilful murder and were being held at the Jomba police cell in Madang town.
Meanwhile, three suspects involved in the murder of a former village court magistrate and his brother in 2010 were arrested over the weekend.
Acting Supt Rubiang said four suspects were involved in the death of Manke Munareka and his brother Pende Munareka.
He said one suspect was still on the run.
Rubiang said villagers accused the former village court magistrate (Manke) of sorcery.

  • The Police Minister is Brian Kramer, elected by people of Madang to assist them in such situation. Is he still doing his masters in science to explore the universe or developing COVID medication. He should be ashamed if police in Madang is calling for help…
