THE country’s top cop has asked all police personnel to remain neutral in the coming weeks as the formation of the government progresses.
“You have all sworn an oath to protect and serve everyone in PNG without fear or favour and will be expected to demonstrate this, especially in the crucial weeks leading up to the formation of government,” Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga said in a statement yesterday.
“We have a duty to this country and we must not take sides, nor partake in any activity which may bring the constabulary into disrepute.
“It is very important for our country and the democratic process that the Royal PNG Constabulary, as an organisation, and individual members distance themselves from the process and allow our leaders to make their own decisions as to who should govern our country for the next five years,” he said.
Counting for ongoing elections is scheduled to end tomorrow with all 111 seats declared by then.
