Western declares new governor

AN independent candidate and economist, Ati Wobiro, has been declared the new governor-elect for Western.
He polled 19,504 votes to unseat Labour Party leader Dr Bob Danaya.
Western elections manager Sponsa Navi said, from Kiunga, the declaration was made at 3.40pm on Tuesdway.
Wobiro had  contested in the 2007 general election and finished third.
He was one of the directors of PNG Sustainable Development Programme before contesting the provincial seat.
Danaya had polled 16,681 votes to finish second. In third place was independent Taboi Awi Yoto with 14,112.
In the open electorates, People’s National Congress party candidates Boka Kondra and Roy Biyama retained their seats in North Fly open and Middle Fly open respectively.
Newcomer and also PNC candidate, Aide Ganasi, was declared South Fly winner.
