Police College Commandants Cup president Vitus Kanua says 10 weeks of round-robin matches will end this weekend and the top-eight teams from grades A and B will be announced.
“So far, it has been 10 weeks,” he told The National.
“This weekend, we will play the last matches of the regular season and announce the top-eight teams.
“We had 48 eight teams, but due to disciplinary reasons, we had to omit eight sides.
“The competition is big on discipline and that’s something that I want to see coming out from players, coaches and supporters.
“So now, we are left with 40 teams in grades A and B.”
Kanua said since he took office, he had been focusing on completing seasons successfully.
“In the past, there were always financial issues, resulting in matches being suspended or presentations being delayed so I’m thinking of doing things properly,” he said.
“So in doing that, I’ve spent almost K2,000 from my own pocket to take care of the referees and officials.
“I want the clubs’ registration and affiliation fees to be kept safe to buy trophies.
“I want to give out prize money for the competition winners and runners-up.”
Kanua said one of the things he was consistent in reminding players and club managements was discipline.
“I hope at least one or two of the players in the competition get a call-up to play in the Digicel Cup, so that they can promote what we’re doing here,” he said.
