Top teams Hox Freway, Raukele, Snipers and University have secured places in the men’s and women’s division pre-season semifinals of the Fairfax Volleyball competition next week.
After two weekends of pre-season matches, association chairman Nuga Dick is impressed with the turnout as old and new teams battled on the courts of the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
Dick said the pre-season semi and grand final would be played this weekend. He said the season proper would kick off next weekend.
Dick has welcomed new affiliate Tatana Neighbours who joined the Fairfax Volleyball Association this season.
Tatana Neighbours captain Dika Gabe said it was a new club in the city competition comprising family members selected to experience in this level.
Gabe said the club has three women’s teams in A grade, division one and Under-21 while men would compete in the premier division, A grade, division one and U21 divisions. “We have decided to join the competition to be competitive and educate our players about life in sports in the city,” she said.
“This will not be an easy task for us as we face very experienced teams like Hox Freeway, Snipers and Raukele in the competition.”
