Tornadoes upset reigning champs in NCD leg of CCIC

HARBOUR City Tornadoes upset reigning champions Hohola Emerging 12-6 in the third round of the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup’s NCD leg at Bava Park yesterday.
The win saw them book a quarterfinal berth on Thursday with the grand final scheduled for the following day.
The men from Konedobu are unbeaten leaders in Pool D with three straight wins.
The win over Hohola was a huge morale boost according to coach Wilson Mavoko.
Tornadoes picked up the winning try through Jonathan Goro which was converted by Jamie Mavoko.
The halftime score was 6-6 with converted tries Tornadoes centre Donald Thomas converted by Mavoko while Hohola’s points came from Philip Kolowa with Willie Angis added the extras.
Both sides featured seasoned players from Port Moresby Rugby League which made for an entertaining clash.
In the end, Tornadoes made fewer errors and made the most of their chances in a scrappy affair.
Hohola seemed to lose concentration at crucial moments in the second half and missed their opportunities to apply pressure on the Tornadoes line.
