AUSTRALIAN tour operator Captain Dick Lang plans to bring in more tourists in his private plane to watch the Enga cultural show this weekend.
Lang has travelled to the remotest regions of the world in the past 50 years studying people and their cultures.
He started his Air Safari into Papua New Guinea in 1978 and discovered Enga’s diverse culture and people.
“People, villages and families of Enga were very welcoming and this started a strong liking for the area, which continues to this day,” Lang said.
He said big changes had taken place, most notably the tarsealed roads, improved access, communication and an increase in population.
He brought hundreds of tourists to watch cultural shows.
“This has led to our exposure and appreciation of the lifestyle of Papua New Guinea to an outside world,” Lang said.
He visited the Goroka/Mt Hagen cultural shows in the 1990s and heard of the new Enga Cultural show.
Lang said show manager Margret Potane helped him organise many of his visits to Enga. “It was, and still is, the most authentic and spellbinding of all the PNG cultural shows. The effort made by the local villagers with their stunning displays and headdresses is the best in PNG.”
apua New Guinea,” he said.
“The enthusiasm and dedication of the Enga people towards keeping the future of their culture alive is outstanding.”
