The Tourism Promotion Authority has launched a new-look website to coincide with Apec 2018.
It was launched by Tourism Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur last Wednesday.
The launching came just a day after the Government announced a K50 million commitment to tourism in the 2019 Budget.
“As minister responsible for tourism arts and culture, I commend the Tourism Promotion Authority for launching this website in a timely manner when we are hosting the Apec Leaders Summit,” Tammur said.
“I’m sure all our visitors to the new TPA website, including our Apec leaders and delegates, will have been impressed with the quality and level of information on PNG that is readily available at your fingertips.”
Chief executive officer of TPA Jerry Agus urged everyone to work together to develop tourism in the country.
He said Papua New Guinea had everything, but tourists were not coming for various reasons.
“One of them is the ease of getting visas,” Agus said.
“We are grateful to the minister for immigration and the Department of Immigration for streamlining the visa-issuing process.
“We can get visas online and that is one of the positives for the tourism industry in this country.
“The other area is costs. A lot of people think PNG is the most-expensive destination on Earth.
“This is something that all of us need to work together to address.”
Agus said Apec 2018 was the “biggest news” for the tourism industry in PNG. “Over the years, we’ve been struggling to market and promote PNG as a tourism destination,” he said.
Agus said the new-look TPA website would be at the forefront of promoting PNG as a place to visit.
