Tovia helps PNG Power beat Yokomo in men’s softball comp

PNG Power beat Yokomo 4-2 under cloudy skies in the Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association A Grade at the Bisini Diamonds yesterday.
The conditions were great after early morning downpour which set the tone for a cool outing which was decided after good fielding by PNG Power in the fifth inning.
Pitcher Eugene Tovia’s powerful deliveries hurt the opposition batters time and again.
Tovia’s deliveries hit the target with several strikeouts to his name that made the difference at the top of the fifth inning. This dashed the opposition’s hopes to force the match to the top of the fifth inning.
But it was good defence which got PNG Power out of trouble.
Yokomo found the going tough and were kept pointless in the opening three innings.
This had PNG Power with a 1-0 lead through Demas Tovia. Then another point from Maru Bernard to give them a 2-0 advantage.
Coming in the third inning with a freebie to Danny Tovia with a homerun courtesy of Andrew Kalai who whacked it over the boundary.
Yokomo found their way back into the match after fielding errors by PNG Power allowed them to score two runs through Jack Tarasomo and Frazer Kudada to close the gap to 2-4. They restricted the opposition in the fourth inning with the scores remaining 2-4.
But during their turn of final batting, they were all unsuccessful, thanks to PNG Power’s outstanding defence.
