TEACHER training will be stepped up from next year to cope  with the increasing rolls as a result of the free education policy of the government.
Vice-Minister for education and Nawaeb MP Gisuwat Sinuwin said that at the graduation of the  Rev Maru Teachers’ College of the Jubilee Institute of Higher Learning in East Sepik last Friday.
He committed K500,000 on behalf of the government to help build new infrastructure at the Wewak campus.
Sinuwin said the government would place emphasis on all areas of teacher training and would accommodate all graduates to teach because the government policy was benefiting Papua New Guineans.
“Education is the way forward that will carry all other development aspirations you dream of. Mining has problems, agriculture needs schooled people, it’s affected by diseases – cocoa pod borer – because of the lack of education, food crops need good gardening ideas, technological use needs education.”
Sinuwin said the government realised churches and AOG PNG as a partner in national development, in particular through the public, private and church partnership programme.
Sinuwin said the commitment by the government to partner with the Jubilee Institute of Higher Learning focused on strengthening education and professional training with Christian principles because they recognised people as valuable national resources.
He acknowledged the efforts put in by the campus and the struggles of its students.
A total of 48 students graduated with diploma in primary teaching.
