LAST week’s transfer of three family sexual violence police officers will leave a backlog of complaints and unfinished cases, says First Const Marylouise Avu.
Avu said many of the cases were related to interim protection orders (IPOs).
“The complainants came last week and left statements, and were told to come back today (yesterday).
“However, today, we told them that another officer will deal with their cases, starting all over again,” Avu said.
“We told them, we are sorry. Nothing much we can do.”
The three FSVU officers had been transferred to public safety duties, starting today.
Avu was sent to Gerehu, one to Gordon FSVU and the OIC would remain at Waigani.
Attempts to get comments from FSVU director Delilah Sandeka were unsuccessful.
“We’re happy to move but we weren’t told where we went wrong or why we are moved.
“When there’s a reshuffle, it’s only between FSVU stations,” Avu said.
Five officers were working at Waigani and, with three moving, the unit is now left with two.
“I have been working with FSVU Waigani for nine years.
“The other officer has worked for eight years and our officer-in-charge 15 years,” she said.
Avu clarified that they were not questioning their transfer; they only wanted the reasons.
“Last Wednesday, the three received a minute for their transfer.
“They enquired with the administration who then wrote to the metropolitan superintendent’s office seeking an explanation.
“We have not received a response,” she said.
