THE round-two clash of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League New Guinea Islands (NSL NGI) Conference between Greengold and Vudal Gazelle did not take place on Sunday.
NSL NGI development coordinator Tonga Esira said Vudal did not turn up due to issues with transport from Rabaul to Kimbe.
Esira said the match would now be played at a later date yet to be confirmed by the competition organisers.
“On behalf of the NGI Conference, we sincerely apologise for calling off this match that was scheduled to be played at the Sasindran Muthuvel Stadium in Kimbe at 3pm on Sunday,” Esira said.
“The match was called off due to circumstances beyond our control, as Vudal Gazelle didn’t make it to Kimbe due to transport problem by sea.
“On their way to Kimbe, Gazelle had six breakdowns involving the motor of the boat, which they couldn’t get fixed till yesterday so we had to call it off.
“They came to the border of Kimbe and Rabaul but the boat’s motor was spoilt so they were out at sea all night and day on Saturday and Sunday, so we just had to advise them to return.”
Esira said with the NSL now being played in Kimbe and Kokopo, the five teams in the conference would be travelling by sea and it was going be a challenge, which they all will have to manage.
Meanwhile, the conference ladder sees West Tribe in top spot after securing their first win over Radazz (3-1) on Saturday in Kokopo while AROB Chebu FC were on a bye last weekend.
