NATIONAL coach Jackie Travetz says she’s impressed with the progress of para-athletes Morea Mararos and Nelly Leva who recently qualified for this year’s Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Although Covid-19 had disrupted training since last year as well as uncertainties around their qualification, the Paralympic debutants had remained focused on developing their skills.
Travetz is now calling for support from everyone towards the team’s preparation with less than two months to go before they compete in Tokyo.
“From when we started and now, I have seen a lot of improvement,” she said.
“But there is more progress that we need to make with our technical sessions.
“There is a lot of work that still needs to be done, but I’m positive that each day has been positive for both of them.
“They have been really consistent with their training, they are committed and are looking forward to competing against the world’s best para-athletes.
“The rewarding part is the experience that they will gain as they are rookies in the Paralympic area.”
Travetz said apart from technical and gym sessions, they also provided meals for Mararos and Leva to ensure a good and nutrition, which was a vital part of their preparation.
“After every session, we provide meals for the athletes,” she said.
“It’s funded by our head coach Paul Bannister.
“Leading up to the Paralympics, I’d like to call for support towards their preparation.”
