Trekkers out-fox Knights in Central Premier League

 CENTRAL Premier League Kila Haoda Cup Western pool leaders Keakalo Trekkers were lucky to edge out Eastern minor premiers Hisiu Knights 14-10 in the first match of the split rounds at Wagula Park, Maopa, Central, last Friday.

The two top teams in the split round will play off for the CPL Kila Haoda Cup and K30,000 while the runners-up get K10,000. The Trekkers were stretched to the limits by the Hiritano Highway men in a clash that went down to the wire.

With three minutes remaining and Knights in possession near the Trekkers’ line, a head butt by a Knights player saw them lose possession to a penalty and the opposition were good enough to hold out till full time.

The halftime score was 4-4 with tries to Arava Manuma of the Trekkers and Noah Isaiah of the Knights.

Manuma bagged his second try and teammate Puro Ornai added another in the second half while Karo Ume got scored for his side.

Knights coach Pala Gamini lamented his side’s poor discipline at crucial stages of the match while his opposite Miria Aihi was impressed with his charges for holding the Knights out in the final quarter.

Round two matches will be played at Bereina station.
