THE PNG Triathlon Association has selected a national team for the Arafura Games in May.

The five-member team (four men and a woman) was selected during the PNG Powerthon Olympic distance triathlon event held in Port Moresby last November.

The team: Tim O’Sullivan (Lihir), Poliau Popelihau (Manus) and Mairi Feeger, Lexy Kila and Caroline McGann (NCD).

The management team is Annette Coppola (team manager) and Scott Bishop (coach).

The team is looking to raise funds for Arafura and training for the Darwin event.

This will be PNG’s first foray into international competition after a very long absence from the triathlon scene abroad.

Arafura’s triathlon will comprise the Olympic distance course of a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run.

The Arafura Games will also be the arena for triathletes  Popelihau, Kila and Feeger to get  international exposure in preparation for the Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia, in September.
