TRUKAI Industries Limited has backed Cricket Papua New Guinea’s Village Premier League to grow in popularity with the country’s leading rice supplier increasing the first prize from K10,000 to K20,000.
Company marketing manager Maryanne Tom said the tournament is a great platform that aligned with the Trukai brand.
“The league, although in its second year, is growing in popularity and has domestic and international followers,” she said.
“This year, through our sponsorship, we have increased the first prize from K10,000 to K20,000.
“So this will make it even more exciting for the teams participating.
“This sponsorship also means that we are now a part of the family of sponsors for Cricket PNG.
“We are excited about partnering in cricket development for children nationwide.
“Our values at Trukai are community, family, healthy living and healthy eating, so this partnership is a great marriage of our brands.”
Cricket PNG general manager Tony Naidu hailed the partnership.
“Cricket PNG is about sports and wellbeing, and Trukai is about nutrition and health and wellbeing,” he said.
“With our shared beliefs, we want to bring out the message that cricket is a sport for everyone.”
Trukai and Cricket PNG are discussing how the partnership can impact the lives of people around the country through the federation’s development programmes.
There will be two Village Premier League tournaments played at Amini Park in Port Moresby in May and November. There are six teams that have registered for the May 8-15 tournament and they are Panamex PNG, Zara Wanderers, Spirit of Rigo, Koita Warriors, Northern Alexandrias and Fairprice Furniture. Tomorrow, the teams will participate in a draft to buy 13 players for their squad.
“The league is based on skills, that is why we will host an auction with each team bidding for players,” Naidu said.
As naming rights sponsor of the league, Trukai will support the tournament through the provision of prizes and support Cricket PNG’s development programmes in kind.
Apart from the sponsorship, Trukai is known to support sports such as weightlifting and rugby league as well as its flagship sponsorship of Team PNG through the Trukai Fun Run which was cancelled this year due to the Coronavirus.
