WAGHI Tumbe have signed former Papua New Guinea internationals Mark Mexico, Adex Wera and Thompson Teteh to boost their depleted side for the new Digicel Cup season which kicks off next Sunday.
Franchise chairman Paul Tumun told The National yesterday that veteran Tumbe prop Supa Kokote, who Goroka Lahanis had named in their squad recently, had returned to the reigning Digicel Cup runners-up.
The Jiwaka government-sponsored side lost last year’s grand finalists in Joe Frank, Saki Peter and Valentine Wamdi to other franchises while Francis Kembis and Jesse Mathew were recruited by SP Hunters.
Tumun said the inclusion Mexico, Wera and Teteh would fill the void in the squad. “Given the number of experienced players who had left the club, we needed good replacements and are thrilled to sign the trio,” he said.
“We will definitely count on their experience this season.
“They will bring a lot of confidence to the side.
“With round one approaching, the signing of trio is great for the side.
“We’re now looking forward to a stronger season.”
Tumun said the side needed players with height and weight apart from experience.
“Players like Mark Mexico will add size to the pack,” he said.
“We are looking to sign three more players, but our final squad will be ready before next week.
“So we’ll definitely be prepared.”
