Trump and climate change

Letters

IT was a successful Apec meeting in Port Moresby and I am glad Vice-President Mike Pence changed his mind and stayed overnight. I welcome the fact that the Trump administration is stepping up its support for PNG and that it now also emphasises “shared values, shared history, shared future”, but one topic not much mentioned in the reporting of the Apec meeting was climate change.
Former US President Barrack Obama was very much aware of the fact that climate change endangered the very existence of some Pacific Islands countries and he and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill did plead their case very strongly and effectively at the Climate Conference in Paris. President Trump, on the other hand, is denying that climate change is a man-made problem.
Given Paradise lost in California’s wildfires and other natural disasters affecting his country, President Trump should reconsider his decision to leave the Paris Accord on Climate Change.
