Tuke visiting East New Britain on trip to get to know province

MINING Minister and Kainantu MP Johnson Tuke, pictured, is currently in East New Britain on a familiarisation visit.
Tuke arrived at Tokua yesterday afternoon and was accompanied by officers from the Department of Mineral Policy and Geo-Hazards Management.
Today, he will visit the Rabaul Volcano Observatory (RVO) and meet staff there to see the operations of the observatory which monitors volcanic hazards in the province and the country.
He paid a courtesy visit to Governor Nakikus Konga and administrator Wilson Matava yesterday.
During the four-day visit, the minister will also be signing a contract for the RVO relocation project and visit Kenabot which has been proposed as the new site.
Tuke will also visit the infra-sound and seismic station at Taviolo, which is part of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation at Tavilo.
The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation site cost K3 million and work began in 2012.
The relocation of the observatory from Rabaul to Kokopo cost K9 million.
