THE Papua New Guinea InterOil Turagus performed well at the Singapore 7s and made it to the plate final, with Pukpuk flanker Butler Morris a standout.

The Turagus left for Singapore last Wednesday and return to Port Moresby today after two days of intense competition against the emerging squads of other similarly-ranked countries.

The Tisa Kautu-captained side put the Swedish Vikings to the sword 36-0 after suffering a 19-5 loss to a French development side in their first match.

The Turagus then advanced to take on Sri Lankan in the plate playoff and beat them 47-5 to qualify for the plate final. The Turagus overwhelmed Generale Singapore 26-5 to take out the honours.

Morris, along with rookie Robin Loma and Kautu made telling contributions to the team’s performance over the course of the two-day event.

Coach Douglas Guise said that the tournament in Singapore was to develop the skills and experience of the players.

Guise said he would finalise the squad for the Oceania Olympic Qualifiers in New Zealand this week.

The tournament in New Zealand in November will be the qualifier for Wellington and Hong Kong 7s.
