National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Benjamin Turi has warned candidates and supporters in the city to comply with the rules of the election and not to break them.
Turi said police would be strict on candidates during the campaign period and polling to ensure that there were no double voting and candidates were campaigning on their policies and not anything else.
He said police would be everywhere on the streets and suburbs to make sure there would be no public disorder caused by candidates or the supporters.
“Candidates must campaign on their policy and what they want to do or change, and not to spoil other candidates, because spoiling other people can start up fights,” he said.
“Including the voting, candidates must not buy votes, these are some things police are going to seriously monitor during the election period.”
Turi said the public must also know whom to choose when it comes to polling.
Meanwhile, Turi said that double voting in the suburbs was a major issue faced in many elections especially in NCD.
He encouraged scrutineers at the poling and the counting areas to have cameras to at least be witnesses to such events.
“We encourage every scrutineer at polling and counting area to have camera to at least be witnesses to take photo, for any illegal activities,” he said.
“Start recording early campaigns by media or camera. Just record anything that is wrong and inform us.
“Include polling booths or police officers, candidates and supporters dealing in some dirty dealings.”
He said when doing thatm, they could document it in writing or anything and when in court those were some things that could be shown as evidence.
