TWO people were arrested for allegedly pretending to be National Capital District Commission officers and collecting fines from residents at the newly opened Era Kone Beach, previously known as Ela Beach, in Port Moresby.
NCDC taskforce assistant coordinator Lawrence John said they arrested the suspects for allegedly collecting fees from those chewing betel nuts.
“We caught them red-handed with falsified NCDC identification cards on Sunday when residents were enjoying the beach facilities,” John said.
“We have charged them with forging NCDC ID cards. We have also charged them for stealing, illegally collecting fines and getting fees from residents chewing betel nuts.”
John said that chewing of betel nuts was banned at Era Kone and there was a legitimate NCDC unit to enforce that law.
