TWO brothers aged 18 and 12 have been killed and their necks chopped while on their way to school in the Transgogol area of Madang yesterday.
According to Madang police commander Acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang, the two were amongst many other children who were on their way to school when the incident happened between 7am and 7:30am.
Speaking from Madang yesterday, acting Supt Rubiang said six suspects were believed to be waiting for the two brothers.
The deceased were identified as Nathaniel Frank, 18, and Henry Frank, 12, from Siang village.
They attended Wabusalik Primary School.
“Late Nathaniel was in grade 8 and his younger brother Henry is in grade 4,” acting Supt Rubiang said.
“Their father is a Lutheran church pastor from Siang in the lower Transgogol LLG.
“Yesterday, the brothers were on their way to school along with other kids when six suspects, believed to be part of a cult group, attacked them.
“Their necks were chopped and they had severe cuts all over their bodies, the two died instantly.
“Police attended to the scene and transported the bodies to Siang in lower Transgogol,” he said.
Acting Supt Rubiang said the suspects fled the scene when police arrived.
He said police need help from local communities in Transgogol to arrest the suspects.
However, people live in fear of being attacked, thus, they did not come forth with information of factions or individuals involved, he said.
He said claiming one’s life, especially of young and innocent children, as way of payback in the Transgogol area was becoming too common and needs to stop.
In another incident in Madang town, Acting Supt Rubiang said a constable has been recently arrested and charged for attempted murder.
He said the constable would appear in court next week.
was based in one of the Highlands provinces had been living in Madang for past few months at the time of the incident.
The constable is expected to appear in court next week.

  • Enough is enough. Do we have the province parliament leaders who can work alone with their people to sort out this problem of cult practices that is on going.

  • They both have long lives to live ahead of them, dreams and aspirations they had in life will not eventuate for them. Why these young boys?? It saddens me to read this assuming they both are my younger siblings….what a way to lose them both…condolences to their families.

This cult issue has been going on for a long time in that part of Madang – both the Governor and the Police Minister (who Madang District comes under) including the Police in Madang know very well this was happening. To date what are their plans to address this issue – people have died and continue to lose lives – do we just sit around and wait for these killings to stop by themselves??

You don’t see the hearts of the family members that lost their loved ones from these killings but deep in their hearts they are silently crying, begging and hoping earnestly for this to stop. Please those responsible authorities including the MPs make it happen for them. The statistics from the cult activities in that particular area is more than enough evidence to stop more killings.

  • TRANSGOGOL IN MADANG IS IN THE MADANG OPEN ELECTORATE OF THE CURRENT POLICE MINISTER. I DON’T KNOW HOW MR. KRAMER WILL DEAL WITH HIS PEOPLE.

  • One of most effective ways to curb such lawlessness is to work with the communities. People in the communities would fear lives so it is best suggested that some little DSIP funding or so should be provided to anyone who provides reliable information that leads to the arrest of culprits. Police hotline numbers should be given to the communities. This will lure people into assisting police. Without that people will fear assisting police.

  • The cult practice is common in that region where Mr. SCIENTIST and Police Minister Kramer comes from.

A person with no responsibility for his people but yet claims to represent the people of Madang district.

  • Its frustrating for a me as a fellow PNGean to read about such inhumane incident. The past numerous media reports about the so-called cult practices resulting in manslaughter has been going on for a while in the Transgogol area. That should have prompted that authorities to identify an effective WAY to put to rest this animalistic behaviour. By now, such incident should be a thing of the past. STOP the “band aid solution” to such issue. If it means to set-up a permanent police post and deploy police in the concerned area, then do so. Get the police to set up camps among the villages so that they can come fort with much needed information – I am who would want to risk his life by giving away the much needed info when their security is not guaranteed. Go stap wantem ol na provide’m security until u kisim info na mekim arrest lo olain suspect. Members of Parliament should cooperate to settle this issue for once.
