TWO children were burnt to death and another is in the Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital, Western Highlands, after the house they were sleeping in burnt down last Monday, police said.
Dead are grade five pupil Shirley Timba, 14, and elementary pupil Haita Timba, 7. Merlyn Timba, 17, a grade seven student, is in hospital.
Western Highlands police commander Jacob Kamiak said the incident took place at Neglema village, at Kuk, in Mt Hagen.
Kamiak said the children were sleeping in the house when it caught fire between 9pm and 10pm. People believed petrol was used as the accelerant.
He said police had a suspect and urged members of the public to come forward to police with information.
