Sports

SPORTS is one of the activities that brings people together, especially the youths to meet and share their skills and talent as well as helping them to keep occupied.
Member for Vanimo-Green River, West Sepik, Belden Namah sponsored a soccer tournament in Vanimo which attracted more than 50 teams last month.
The games ended on Friday (Feb 22) with the finals.
Lido (2) beat Wutung 1-0 to claim the men’s division while Lido (2) beat Lido (1) 3-2 in a penalty shootout in the women’s final.
Namah committed K100,000 to the tournament and pledged to support it over the five years.
The champions received K10,000 along with the trophies while the runners-up received K5000.
The third-place finishers received K2500 each.
Other teams received consolation prizes of K300 (men) and K250 (women). Teams from Vanimo West Coast and East Coast including the inland areas of Bewani, Ossima and Imonda took part.
Organiser Targut Apeng thanked Namah for his support.
He said sports was something businesses and the provincial government could support as it had a positive effect on the community.
