THE United Nations Women and Ginigoda Foundation in Port Moresby are supporting the Meri Safe Bus programme with two 25-seater buses.
The two buses are to be used by women and girls. The Meri Safe Bus programme has been extended from Port Moresby to Lae.
Deputy country representative of UN Women, Adekemi Ndieli, said the two buses were for the safety of women and girls, and for all the women in Papua New Guinea.
“To help girls, women and children make their life easier, free from harm of violence and fear, the Meri Safe Bus programme wants to fill this gap by providing pivotal services for women and girls,” Ndieli said. The programme started in Port Moresby in 2012.
Ndieli said the programme would not be successful without the help of the Ginigoda Foundation.
The partners supported with a total funding of K358,970 to purchase the two busses.
