THE Lae Biscuit Bowls team head into the grand final as underdogs against Ela Motors in the Lae Golf Club corporate lawn bowls competition next Monday night.
The competition ran for nine Mondays, with over six teams competing.
The team, led by captain Harry Kaisa, will be going into the match against favourites Ela Motors, who have regular bowlers in their side.
But the team are proving to be giant killers after beating Warner Shand Lawyers in the elimination finals, and then backing it up with an impressive 22-4 win over Dunlop in the semifinal on Monday night.
The semifinal was a 12-ends playoff, with the Wayne Baker-led Dunlop having the edge over the team winning the first two ends for a score of 2-0. However, the Lae Biscuit Company-backed side stole the show soon after to dominate the remaining 10 ends.
Lead bowler Mark Ydel put in a fantastic performance, with support from Robert Thomas, Toki Mambare and Kaisa. LBC’s dominance saw them put 22 points on Dunlop, who managed to add two more to bring their score to four.
“We believe we can match Ela Motors in the grand final,” Kaisa said. “Last season, we were plate champions.
“This season, we finished second in the competition to make the grand final for the first time.
“I believe momentum and good karma is on our side as Toti City FC, who are also backed by the Lae Biscuit Company, won the National Soccer League last weekend.
“So we will go with this good fortune to hopefully win this competition.”
