STUDENTS from four universities in the country have thanked the government for allocating the biggest slice of the 2012 budget to education.
The student were represented by Bill Minjikul of the University of Papua New Guinea, Jamie Namorog of the University of Goroka, Leah Margis of the Divine Word University and Edward Dango of the Pacific Adventist University.
They also thanked the government for budgeting for tertiary students allowances.
They said the government had proved that it supported students.
They said any government which prioritised education was far-sighted because the true wealth of the nation was in an educated and informed society.
Minjikul said the students were prepared to work together with the government to shape policies which were good for the nation.
Minjikul said there was a need to deploy intellectuals to implement the policies and incentives by the government.
Minjikul said it was pleasing to see that the government was targeting the economically disadvantage.
