THE first K12,000 in lease payment to secure the facility to start the Morobe provincial education reform programme in partnership with University of Goroka (UoG) has been paid.
UoG Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic, Research and Innovations Teng Waninga paid the cheque to Special Education Resource Centre and received the key to the facilities on Friday.
The payment is for 12 months to allow UoG to have access to improve the facilities and get the programme started this month.
“There is a lot to do to improve the facilities to meet UoG status in the long-run to instill confidence in students to feel the presence of an academic institution,” Waninga said.
“We cannot wait for Morobe provincial government, since we’ve signed the memorandum of understanding in March, we must go ahead and educate the Morobe people.”
Not all Morobeans – school leavers, parents, public servants and company employees – can travel to UoG to study because of work and other commitments.
Because of that, Governor Ginson Saonu started a programme to bring UoG to the people.
“The programme provides opportunities for grade 10, 11 and 12 school leavers and elementary school teachers to study for a degree. Similarly, the same opportunity applies to any public servant and company employee wishing to pursue a degree programme,” Waninga said.
Between seven and eight academic programmes will be offered.
