THE Morobe Rugby Union (MRFU) hosted a successful pre-season sevens tournament with 10 teams taking part last week.
The tournament was held at Telikom College with the top six sides walking away with cash prizes.
MRFU president Lionel Kamiak said the pre-season was for teams in Morobe to prepare themselves for the Trans Highway Sevens which would be held at the end of the month.
“We will have another round of games this weekend so interested clubs must contact coordinator Laho Posu on 72271454,” he said.
“Registration has been slow with just two teams – Madang’s 6B pirates and Lae’s Legal Eagles – so far confirmed for the Trans Highway Sevens.
“I urge interested teams to register early so you can secure a spot for the upcoming tournament in Lae and battle for cash prizes worth K10,000.
“Registrations still stands at K550 per team and further updates will be posted on our Facebook page.”
Kamiak said invitation was open to all centres and games would be played under strict Covid-19 guidelines.
He said special awards would also be given.
“This tournament is aimed at creating awareness on gender-based violence and Covid-19,” Kamiak said.
“We appeal to any business houses that are interested in backing the tournament for a good cause.”
